My Top Three Most Ridiculous Rubbish Removal Jobs I’ve Ever Had

In most cases, people call my crew to get rid of old mattresses, a broken fridge, or just the regular type of junk households accumulate throughout the years. However, there are the rare cases for the ages – the ones I tell friends about over a pint of ale in the pub.

Getting Rid Of An Entire Set Of Gym Equipment

Which types of businesses suffered the most during the Covid pandemic? Fitness gyms would be in my top three. So when I got a call for a gym equipment removal, I figured the owner was trying to downsize their business.

As it turned out, the fitness place faced foreclosure and growing debt. The bank holding the mortgage wanted to lease the site as quickly as possible and needed to get rid of the useless junk (in their view). In my opinion, however, it was a golden opportunity. I called a friend who owned a gym in South East London and offered him the equipment with a huge discount. He couldn’t believe his luck – and neither could I.

Throwing Out A Steinway… Kind Of

When I got off the phone on this case, I thought the owner had gone crazy. You do not throw away a priceless Steinway piano under any circumstances!

In fact, it wasn’t really a Steinway. The owner of a posh apartment in Chelsea had wanted to impress his piano-playing fiancee by buying her the ultimate gift. However, he wanted to go cheap and contacted a specialised buyer to find him the best second-hand deal on the market.

Unfortunately, the “specialised buyer” turned out to be a conman. He had found an old, useless piano and a carpenter willing to give it a gloss. He sold the resulting piece of junk for £5000, claiming its accurate price was at least five times higher. Talk about getting burned!

An Obnoxious Set Of Hunting Trophies

This one is more straightforward. A fifth-generation local gentry family had to sell their sprawling mansion in the West London suburbs. The new owner – an Indian iron ore mogul – did not appreciate the twenty-three hunting trophies on the hallway walls. Of went the deer heads – with a sizeable tip for the crew’s efforts!
